OTTAWA PUBLIC HEALTH 2007 ANNUAL REPORT |
|
|
OBJET : |
That the Community and Protective Services Committee
and Council receive this report for information.
The year 2007 marked 175 years since the first Board of Health was struck in Bytown. Although Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has progressed a long way since then, the original public health mandate of protecting the public and promoting a healthy city, has not changed.
This
Annual Report is a way of communicating and demonstrating how OPH is committed
to optimizing the health status of Ottawa residents by promoting healthy
behaviours and anticipating, preventing and mitigating threats to people’s
health. This report provides highlights
of OPH's programs and achievements in 2007, including promotion of safe
environments and healthy lifestyles, injury and disease prevention, control of
infectious disease and the delivery of excellent health information to Ottawa
residents. The Ottawa Public Health
2007 Annual Report also reflects the accomplishments of its dedicated staff in
supporting its vision as it strives to be a centre of public health excellence
for responsive, innovative service and education that assures and supports
Ottawa residents’ health and builds community capacity.
During
this past year, OPH was again recognized as a provincial, national and
international leader in public health programming, through local and provincial
awards. These awards and the adaptation
of OPH programs for use by other jurisdictions are a testament to the success of
its programs and to the dedicated effort of Ottawa public health staff. Much of OPH's success is due to its strong
working relationships across the Community and Protective Services department
and with community partners.
Ottawa
Public Health distributes its annual report to the community as per the
Mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines (1997).
Additional
copies may be obtained upon request.

OTTAWA PUBLIC HEALTH 2007 ANNUAL REPORT
|
