ADDITIONAL ITEM That the Transit Commission approve the addition of this item for consideration by the committee at today’s meeting, pursuant to section 84(3) of the procedure by-law. * Support for Bill C-402 -  An Act to amend the Criminal Code (Public Transportation Workers) CARRIED 5. SUPPORT FOR BILL C-402 – AN ACT TO AMEND THE CRIMINAL CODE (PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION WORKERS) WHEREAS the rise in assaults against public transit workers has been identified as an industry-wide problem for several years; and WHEREAS all members of the public transit industry – unions and management alike – recognize the need to protect transit workers; and WHEREAS a Private Member’s Bill in the House of Commons calling for changes to the Criminal Code of Canada with more appropriate protection for transit workers while engaged in the performance of their duty (Bill C-402) was introduced and received First Reading in February 2012; and WHEREAS the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) supports this Bill proceeding through the legislative process and becoming law, and OC Transpo is a member of this organization; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Transit Commission communicate its support for Bill C-402 to the Prime Minister, the Attorney General, the leaders of the Opposition and the Bill’s sponsor, Peter Julian, M.P.
