PART V- POLICE SERVICES ACT

DETAILS OF POLICY AND/OR SERVICE COMPLAINT INVESTIGATIONS

Complaint #:                        14-0133

Date of Incident:                 10 September 2013

Date of Complaint:             03 April 2014

Date Completed:                10 June 2014

Summary of Complaint:

The complainant expressed dissatisfaction with the service provided by the Background Clearance Section. He alleges that the fact that a notable police contact is indicated on his Police Background Check for Work with the Vulnerable Sector is inhibiting him from attaining employment. He wrote a letter to the Chief of Police asking for this notable contact to be removed prior to the five year expiration period.

Summary of Findings and Actions Taken:

The complainant was denied the removal of the notable police contact because this contact was disclosed according to the RCMP Learn Guidelines regarding Police Record Checks. There were no deficiencies in the service provided by the Background Clearance Section and the policy regarding record disclosure is an RCMP policy that the Ottawa Police Service must follow in order to administer Police Record Checks and the CPIC system. No further action was taken.
