SUBJECT/OBJET ATTENDANCE AT ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF
POLICE SERVICES BOARDS ANNUAL CONFERENCE
That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the attendance of E. El-Chantiry and W. Fedec at the Annual Conference of the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards, to be held May 21 – 24, 2014 in Toronto, Ontario.
BACKGROUND
All members of the Board received the information attached at Annex A about the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards’ (OAPSB) 2014 Spring Conference & AGM being held in Toronto, May 21 – 24, 2014, and were canvassed as to their interest in attending.
The Ottawa Police Services Board has recognized the importance of ongoing training and education for its members through its policies and in particular through the training policy adopted in response to a recommendation from the City’s Auditor General. The Board also ensures that sufficient funds are included in its budget each year to support its commitment to ongoing education and enable Board members to attend various learning opportunities throughout the year. This conference is one of two annual conferences specifically designed for members of police boards that Ottawa Board members are encouraged to attend at least once in their first two years on the Board.
Chair El-Chantiry and Executive Director Fedec have expressed an interest in attending the 2014 OAPSB conference. The Chair has indicated he is willing to step aside if someone else wishes to go.
CONSULTATION
Consultation was not applicable.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The cost of attending this conference is estimated at $1,900 per person. There are sufficient funds in the 2014 Police Services Board budget to accommodate this request.
