2014 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve payment of $5,385 to the Canadian Association of Police Governance for its 2014 membership fee.
BACKGROUND
Attached as Annex A is a letter from Cathryn Palmer, President, Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG) containing 2014 membership renewal information. Other documents referenced in the letter were previously shared with Board members.
The Ottawa Police Services Board has been a member of the CAPG since 1995 and has been an active supporter in past years. In addition to providing staffing support to the Association for nine years from 1997 through 2005, former Board Chair Herb Kreling served for seven years on the Board of Directors, including two terms as President from August 2001 to August 2003. Currently, Member Smallwood is serving his first term on the CAPG Board.
In accordance with the Board’s Training Policy and commitment to ongoing learning, members of the Ottawa Police Services Board are encouraged to attend at least one annual CAPG conference in the first two years of being on the Board. The CAPG will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year at its 2014 Annual Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from August 21 to 23, 2014.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The 2014 annual membership fee for police services boards with over 1,000 employees has increased by 2.5% from last year, and is now at $5,385. Funds have been allocated for this expense in the 2014 Police Services Board Budget.
