TO/DEST.                       Chair and Members of the Ottawa Police Services Board

FROM/EXP.                   Executive Director, Ottawa Police Services Board

SUBJECT/OBJET         CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF POLICE BOARDS’

                                         CONFERENCE:  Attendance

RECOMMENDATION

That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the attendance of Members Doyle and Smallwood at the 2013 Canadian Association of Police Boards’ Conference being held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 15 – 17 August 2013.

BACKGROUND

All members of the Police Services Board received information (attached at Annex A) about the 2013 Canadian Association of Police Boards (CAPB) Conference being held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 15 – 17 August 2013.  Members were canvassed regarding their interest in attending; Members Doyle and Smallwood wish to attend.

The Ottawa Police Services Board has recognized the importance of ongoing training and education for its members through its policies and in particular through the training policy adopted in 2006 in response to a recommendation from the City’s Auditor General.  The Board also ensures that sufficient funds are included in its budget each year to support its commitment to ongoing education and enable Board members to attend various learning opportunities throughout the year.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

The approximate cost of attending the conference is $2,900 per person.  Funds have been allocated for this expense in the 2013 Police Services Board budget and there are sufficient funds remaining in the Board’s budget to cover this expenditure.
