PUBLIC COMPLAINTS

PART V- POLICE SERVICES ACT

DETAILS OF POLICY AND/OR SERVICE COMPLAINT INVESTIGATIONS

Complaint #:                        12-0415

Date of Incident:                 25 August 2012

Date of Complaint:             09 October 2012

Date Completed:                12 December 2012

Summary of Complaint:

The complainant alleged that OPS refused to destroy the complainant’s photographs, fingerprints, case files, and CNI after criminal charges were stayed.

Summary of Findings and Actions Taken:

The investigation determined that there was no evidence to substantiate the complaint.   There is nothing legislated that demands police destroy fingerprints of adult persons where non conviction dispositions are concerned.  The OPS Forensic Identification Section forwarded the request for destruction to the RCMP who rejected the request.

Complaint #:                        12-0437

Date of Incident:                 11 October 2012

Date of Complaint:             23 October 2012

Date Completed:                29 October 2012

Summary of Complaint:

The complainant phoned the Communications Centre to advise that a partially paralyzed and injured raccoon was suffering and needed to be euthanized.  The complainant was not satisfied with the dispatcher’s response.  An acting Staff Sergeant followed up on the complaint and advised the complainant that the dispatcher’s actions were looked into and police procedures had been followed correctly.

Summary of Findings and Actions Taken:

After taking all the information into consideration, the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) opted not to proceed with the complaint as it had been determined to be not in the public interest to do so.
