1)     Moment of Silence

Chair El-Chantiry asked that everyone stand and join him in a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut.

2)     Henry Jensen

Chair El-Chantiry noted that this could be Member Jensen’s last Board meeting, as his term will soon be coming to an end.  The Chair recognized Member Jensen’s eight years of very dedicated and conscientious service to the Board, the City and the Police Service.  On behalf of the Board, Chair El-Chantiry thanked Mr. Jensen for the very significant contributions he has made during his time on the Board; he will be missed by his colleagues here in Ottawa as well as across the Province due to his tireless work as President of the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards.  The Chair then presented Member Jensen with a plaque as a small token of thanks.  Mr. Jensen will be more formally recognized at next year’s community awards ceremony.

Member Jensen thanked the Chair for his kind words.  He said it has been a privilege to serve his community and recommended that anyone who has the time should step forward and offer their services, as it is a very rewarding experience.

3)    Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal

Senator J. Munson was in attendance and was invited to the podium by Chair El-Chantiry.  The Senator spoke of his interactions with Chief Bordeleau over the years, from their time together at the Youth Services Bureau to now.  Senator Munson then called upon Chief Bordeleau to step forward to accept the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal.  In granting this honour, Senator Munson thanked the Chief for his dedicated service to his peers, the community and Canada.  The contributions he has made to the nation and to this City are most commendable and deserve our praise and admiration.  The Senator conveyed his heartfelt congratulations as well as those of his fellow Canadians to Chief Bordeleau, as did members of the Police Services Board.
