RAPPORT

DATE:

26 November 2012

TO/DEST:

Executive Director, Ottawa Police Services Board

FROM/EXP:

Chief of Police, Ottawa Police Service

SUBJECT/OBJET:

OTTAWA POLICE GALA

RECOMMENDATION

That the Ottawa Police Services Board receive this report for information.

BACKGROUND

On October 20, 2012, the 3rd Annual Ottawa Police Gala was held at the Ottawa Convention Center with this year’s proceeds directed to the Youth Services Bureau (YSB).  After all invoices have been paid, $127,000 was raised in support of YSB.

Approximately 500 community members, partners, and business leaders joined together in the Trillium Ballroom to celebrate the traditions of policing with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) and members of partner law enforcement agencies.

Ottawa business and community leaders reflected the pride our city has for the men and women who work to make Ottawa such a great community to live in and raise families.  The generosity shown speaks to the reputation of our beneficiary.

The YSB is committed to providing youth with support and assistance. Its services are focused around four key areas: community, employment, mental health, and youth justice. Youth are the leaders of tomorrow and where families are not able to provide the support necessary for a young person facing challenges, the YSB opens their arms and provides what is needed to help them through.

The Ottawa Police Service would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the event sponsors, with special thanks going to the three Platinum Sponsors - Telus, Adobe, and Valley Associates.  Their ongoing commitment and leadership played a critical role in the success of this year’s event.

The OPS plans to host the fourth annual Ottawa Police Gala at the Ottawa Convention Center on October 19, 2013.  Please save the date as we hope to have the Police Services Board by our side again next year.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

The presentation of the proceeds from the 2012 Ottawa Police Gala to the YSB will take place at the Police Services Board meeting on November 26, 2012.

CONSULTATION

The Chief and the Executive will consider priorities and challenges facing our community and with consideration of local charities, the beneficiary will be determined on an annual basis.

CONCLUSION

The 2012 Ottawa Police Service Gala was an incredible success that brought our members and the community together to enjoy a ceremony of policing traditions.  The performance of the Ottawa Police Pipes and Drums, the Ceremonial Guard, and the Chorus, together with involvement of many Venturers, Youth Advisory Committee members, and Auxiliary volunteers, added to the success of the event.  We are delighted to announce that, after all the outstanding invoices are paid, a donation of $127,000 will be made to the Youth Services Bureau.  Since its debut in 2010, the Gala has raised $267,000 for local charities.
