                                         2012 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve payment of $4,675, plus GST, to the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards for its 2012 membership fee.

 

 

BACKGROUND

 

The information attached as Annex A contains the 2012 membership renewal form from the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB). 

 

The Ottawa Police Services Board has been a member and active supporter of the OAPSB and OAPSB Zone 2 (eastern Ontario) since 1995.  Several past members of the Ottawa Police Board have served on the OAPSB Board of Directors over the years, including Member MacEwen from 2002-2005 (Second Vice President for 2004-2005 term), Councillor El-Chantiry from May 2005 to December 2006, and Member Jensen from January 2007 to present.  Member Jensen also currently serves as the Association’s First Vice President. 

 

The Ottawa Police Services Board will be hosting the OAPSB’s 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Conference from April 19-21, 2012.  Details about the conference will be submitted to the Board at its January 2012 meeting.  

 

Members of the Ottawa Police Services Board are required to attend at least one annual OAPSB Annual Conference in the first two years of being on the Board, in accordance with the Board’s Training Policy and commitment to ongoing learning.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

 

The 2012 annual membership fee for police services boards with over 300 employees has increased by 2.5% over last year and now stands at $4,675.  This is the first increase in membership dues since 2009.  Funds have been allocated for this expense in the 2012 Police Services Board Budget.
