OTTAWA POLICE GALA 2011 |
That the Ottawa Police Services Board receive this report for information.
BACKGROUND |
On October 29, 2011, the second annual Ottawa Police Gala was held at the Ottawa Convention Center. Almost 500 people from the Ottawa Police Service, partners and community members celebrated the traditions of policing.
The support from business leaders in Ottawa was tremendous. The generosity shown was in large part due to the reputation of the selected beneficiary, The Ottawa Mission. The Ottawa Police Service is proud to support the Ottawa Mission as it provides hope and comfort to those in need.
The Ottawa Police Service would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the event sponsors, with special thanks going to the three Platinum Sponsors - Telus, Adobe and Valley Associates. Their commitment and leadership played a critical role in the success of this year’s event.
The Ottawa Police Service plans to host the third annual Ottawa Police Gala at the Ottawa Convention Center on October 20, 2012. The beneficiary for the 2012 Gala will be determined by the Chief and the Executive and an announcement will be made once that beneficiary is identified.
The presentation of the proceeds from the 2011 Ottawa Police Gala to The Ottawa Mission will take place at the Police Services Board Meeting on November 28, 2011.
CONSULTATION
The Chief and the Executive will consider priorities and challenges facing our community and with consideration of local charities, the beneficiary will be determined on an annual basis.
The 2011 Ottawa Police Service’s Gala was an incredible success that brought OPS members and the community together for a fabulous meal, great band and the very impressive Ottawa Police Pipes and Drums. The Service is delighted to announce that, after all the outstanding invoices are paid, a donation of $90,000.00 will be made to The Ottawa Mission.
