TO/DEST. Chair and Members of the Ottawa Police Services Board
FROM/EXP. Executive Director, Ottawa Police Services Board
SUBJECT/OBJET ATTENDANCE AT the 2011 CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE ANNUAL CONFERENCE
That the Ottawa Police Services Board approve the attendance of H. Jensen and J. MacEwen at the 2011 Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference being held in Windsor, Ontario from 21 – 24 August 2011.
BACKGROUND
Attached is information regarding the 2011 Annual Conference of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) being held in Windsor, Ontario from 21 – 24 August 2011. All Board members received a copy of the information and were asked if they would like to attend. Board Member H. Jensen is a lifetime member of the CACP and serves on the Association’s Public/Private Sector Liaison Committee, which involves the relationship between the Police, the private sector and government sector. He and Member J. MacEwen have indicated they would like to attend the conference to stay abreast of developments in the policing community.
The Ottawa Police Services Board has recognized the importance of ongoing training and education for its members through its policies and in particular through the Training Policy adopted in 2006 in response to a recommendation from the City’s Auditor General. The Board also ensures that sufficient funds are included in its budget each year to support its commitment to ongoing education and enable Board members to attend various learning opportunities throughout the year.
The approximate cost of attending the conference is $2,800 per person. There are sufficient funds remaining in the 2011 Police Services Board Conferences and Conventions budget to cover this expenditure.
