Summary of Complaint:

 

In mid October 2003, the complainant contacted the Ottawa Police Service and reported that three days previous an acquaintance had visited her and had possibly deposited an illegal substance in her drink.  The complainant was not claiming that any assault had taken place but requested that police investigate the suspicious residue left in her glass.

 

In late November 2003, the complainant submitted a “service complaint” that the police investigator had not contacted her as to the findings of the analysis.

 

Summary of Findings and Action Taken:

 

The complainant was contacted by investigators of the Professional Standards Section and the Sexual Assault Child Abuse Section. The procedures and time delays when dealing with outside laboratories were explained to the complainant.

 

The Professional Standards Section conducted a policy and service review of the issues identified and reported back to the complainant.  No specific recommendations are being made, as all members involved followed standard procedures.

 

The complainant advised the Professional Standards Section investigator that she wished to withdraw her complaint.

Summary of Complaint:

 

In September 2003, the Ottawa Police Service responded to assist the Ottawa Ambulance in reference to an injured person at an intersection in the Sandy Hill area.  The complainant had been located bleeding and had no recollection of what had taken place. Some days later, the complainant determined that he lost some personal items.

 

In January 2004, the complainant submitted a “service complaint” that his robbery did not appear on the Ottawa Police Website – Weekly Activity Report.

 

The complaint was classified as a policy and service complaint.

 

Summary of Findings and Action Taken:

 

The complainant was contacted by an investigator of the Professional Standards Section. The investigator advised him that this incident had not appeared as a robbery on the Website – Weekly Activity Report as the call had not originally been classified as such. The District Investigations Office did conduct a follow up investigation with the complainant.

 

The Professional Standards Section conducted a policy and service review of the issues identified and reported to the complainant.  No specific recommendations are being made as all members involved followed standard procedures.

 

The complainant advised the Professional Standards investigator that he was content with the follow up and withdrew his complaint.
