SUBJECT:    DRAFT BILL 20, AN ACT TO AMEND THE BUILDING CODE, 1992

 

OBJET:          PROJET DE LOI 20, LOI MODIFIANT LA LOI DE 1992 SUR LE CODE DU BÂTIMENT

 

 

REPORT RECOMMENDATIONS

 

That Council:

 

1.                  Endorse the expression of concerns with respect to Bill 20 contained with the letter attached as Document 1 to this motion.

 

2.                  Request the Chair, Planning Committee forward this letter to the Standing Committee on Social Policy.

1.                  Avalise les préoccupations exprimées relativement au Projet de loi 20 dans la lettre jointe à la présente motion (document 1).

 

2.         Demande au président du Comité de l’urbanisme d’envoyer cette lettre au Comité permanent de la politique sociale.

 

 

 

 

BACKGROUND

 

The Planning Committee, at its meeting of 10 April 2012, approved the following motion, which was added to the agenda pursuant to 84(3) of the Procedure By-law (being By-law no. 2006-462.)

 

Moved by Councillor J. Harder:

 

Be It Resolved That Planning Committee recommend to Council that

 

1.      Council endorse the expression of concerns with respect to Bill 20 contained with the letter attached as Document 1 to this motion.

2.      The Chair, Planning Committee be requested to forward this letter to the Standing Committee on Social Policy

 

 

DISCUSSION

 

Arlene Grégoire, Chief Building Official and Director of Building Code Services, requested Planning Committee approve the above motion endorsing the expressions of concern with respect to Bill 20, as outlined in Document 1.  She further asked that Council be requested to waive the notice required under the Procedure By-law so that the letter could be sent to the Standing Committee on Social Policy prior to its meeting of 16 April 2012.

No financial implications have been identified with respect to the motion’s recommendations, though the attached letter speaks to potential financial implications arising from the proposed draft bill.
