REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Finance and Economic Development Committee recommend Council approve the appointment of Derrick Thompson to the Bank Street Business Improvement Area Board of Management for the term expiring November 30, 2014.

Que le Comité des finances et du développement économique recommande au Conseil municipal d’approuver la nomination de Derrick Thompson au conseil de gestion de la Zone d’amélioration commerciale de la rue Bank pour un mandat prenant fin le 30 novembre 2014.

DISCUSSION

Section 204 of the Municipal Act, 2001 requires that the municipality appoint BIA Board members. At its 13 April 2011 meeting, City Council approved the appointment of members to the various Business Improvement Area (BIA) Management Boards in the City.

In an e-mail dated 13 December 2011, the Bank Street Business Improvement Area asked that the City appoint Mr. Derrick Thompson of Thompson Jewellers to fill a vacancy on its Board of Management.

Section 204 of the Municipal Act directs that Business Improvement Area Board members shall hold office until the expiration of the term of Council that appoints them. Accordingly, Mr. Thompson will serve until November 30, 2014.

CONSULTATION

As this is an administrative matter completed on behalf of the BIAs, consultation is not required.
