COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION
That Council approve that Bayview
Park at 128 Bayview Road be renamed Bayview Friendship Bark/parc de l’Amitié Bayview and that a new
sign be posted, the cost of which shall be paid by the Kitchissippi
Ward Cash-in-lieu of Parkland Fund.

The Community and Protective
Services Committee, at its meeting of 17 November 2011, approved the following motion added to the agenda pursuant
to 84.(3) of
the Procedure By-law (being By-law no. 2006-462).
WHEREAS the Hintonburg area has undergone dramatic changes in the past
two decades, including the clean-up of Bayview Park,
which has come to symbolize this transformation;
WHEREAS the name
of this park has been identified as a matter of confusion as there are two
parks on Bayview Road;
WHEREAS there is
presently no sign for Bayview Park, located at 128 Bayview Road;
WHEREAS the lack
of signage has been identified as a security concern by the Hintonburg
Community Association as well as the Community Policing Officer for the
WHEREAS the Hintonburg Community Centre and the youth of Hintonburg have requested that a new name be given to the park to recognize the youth of Hintonburg;
WHEREAS the
City’s Parks and Recreation Department and Emergency Services Department are
supportive of this change;
WHEREAS the new
name for the park should be reflective of the City of Ottawa’ commitment to
pragmatic bilingualism;
BE IT RESOLVED
that Bayview Park at 128 Bayview
Road be renamed Bayview Friendship Bark/parc de l’Amitié Bayview and that a new sign be posted, the cost of which

City Operations staff are
supportive of the park name change recommended by this report.
City Clerk
The Commemorative Naming Policy has only been applied to names that commemorate individuals or families. As such the Clerk's Office feels this proposal is outside the scope of the Commemorative Naming Policy.
FINANCIAL
IMPLICATIONS
The the cost shall be paid by the Kitchissippi Ward Cash-in-lieu of Parkland Fund.
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services staff will take the appropriate action following Council’s decision.
