COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION

 

That Council approve the following appointments of individuals to the Rural Panel of the Committee of Adjustment.  All terms to take effect on May 31, 2011 and to expire 30 November 2014.

Further to deliberations of the Selection Panel, that the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee recommend Council approve the following appointments of individuals to the Rural Panel of the Committee of Adjustment.  All terms to take effect on May 31, 2011 and to expire 30 November 2014.

BACKGROUND

 

Recruitment for membership on the Committee of Adjustment was conducted in accordance with the Council-approved Appointment Policy for citizen members of City of Ottawa Advisory Committees, Boards, Task Forces, Agencies and Commissions.  Advertisements were placed in local newspapers beginning November 5, 2010 and the City accepted applications from November 5 to November 26, 2010. 

 

The Selection Panel consisted of Councillors Peter Hume and Scott Moffatt as well as Mayor Jim Watson (ex officio).  Their recommendations for the appointment of five voting members and two reserve members to the Rural panel of the Committee of Adjustment are submitted for approval by Committee and Council.  As some time is required to train new members before they can participate in their first meeting, it is recommended that the terms take effect on May 31, 2011.

Because of the time needed to complete the appointment process for members to the Rural Panel of the Committee of Adjustment, the above-noted report could not be finalized in time for publication as part of the April 7, 2011 ARAC Agenda.  In order for all appointments to the Committee of Adjustment to rise to Council in a coordinated fashion on 27 April, 2011, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee was asked for its approval to add this item for consideration at its meeting of 7 April, 2011.

That the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee approve the addition of this item for consideration by the Committee at today’s meeting, pursuant to section 84(3) of the Procedure By-Law (being By-Law 2006-462).
