Motion

Is there any update to, or new costing arising from the DOTT project?

Response/Réponse

Response to be listed on the Transit Committee Agenda of November 17, 2010 and the Council Agenda of November 24, 2010

The City of Ottawa has received a Provincial “Green Light” letter from the Ontario Minister of Infrastructure for Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (OLRT) project.  This letter is step two in a three step funding process that includes; funding announcement, green light letter, and finally the formal contribution agreement.  This letter confirms that project costs from September 1, 2010 onwards are now eligible for provincial reimbursement up to the $600 million announced by the Premier on December 18, 2009.  Together with the Approval-In-Principle letter recently received from the Federal Government, this has enabled us to commence preliminary engineering.

As indicated during the quarterly update to Transit Committee on August 30, project costs remain the same at this time based on the preliminary interpretation of the geotechnical borehole data collected during the spring and early summer.  Project cost estimates will be updated as part of the PE process and will be presented to Council upon PE completion.

The attached Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (OLRT) – Tunney’s Pasture to Blair Project Implementation Update Memo contains further detail and a project update.  Please also find attached communications materials in support of this memo.

Should you have any questions concerning the project please contact me at ext. 12764.

Thank you,
