BACKGROUND

Councillor Desroches submitted the following motion for consideration at the Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee meeting on 7 September 2010.

Whereas the Barrhaven Town Centre in Ward 22 will serve as the key business district for the area;

Whereas the plans are based on the principals of "smart growth" and will include retail, residential and institutional use, supported by the Southwest Transitway;

Whereas the plans call for the two public plazas within the Town Centre will be designed as predominately hard surfaced areas fronted by buildings in order to create a vibrant public place;

Whereas the Barrhaven community does not have a permanent cenotaph and interest has been expressed by the Barrhaven Legion to build a permanent cenotaph;

Whereas the Government of Canada has a program in place to fund the construction of new cenotaphs;

Therefore be it resolved that the City's Real Estate staff work with the local builder and community partners to explore and identify options within the plaza as a location for a permanent cenotaph and to report back to Committee and Council on their findings.
