DISPOSITION OF ITEMS APPROVED BY STANDING COMMITTEES UNDER DELEGATED AUTHORITY

For the information of Council, the following items were approved by the Planning and Environment Committee under Delegated Authority, at their meeting of 11 May 2010:

14. MOTION - RENAMING OF RICHMOND ROAD BETWEEN BASELINE ROAD AND EAGLESON ROAD

MOTION – RENOMMER LA PORTION DU CHEMIN RICHMOND SITUÉE ENTRE LE CHEMIN BASELINE ET LE CHEMIN EAGLESON

WHEREAS the businesses in Bells Corners have expressed concern with the confusion created by multiple street names for the continuous roadway through the business sector (Richmond Road becomes Robertson Road), the transition of Richmond Road turning south at a mid-point along this continuous roadway and that Richmond Road as a main collector roadway divides the Lynwood Village community;

AND WHEREAS, Richmond Road disconnects at Moodie Drive where Moodie Drive continues south for a short distance then again becomes Richmond Road south to the village of Richmond;

AND WHEREAS this situation is creating confusion for general wayfinding and a challenge for local businesses trying to describe their location;

AND WHEREAS safety would be remediated with a continuous street name for the full length of the main street through Bells Corners;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Department of Planning and Growth Management undertake the street name change process including public consultation to determine the support for changing Richmond Road between Baseline Road and Eagleson Road to Lloyd Francis Blvd, assigning new civic numbers associated with and report back with recommendations by the end of July 2010.
