OBJET : CHANGEMENT
DE NOM DE PARC À PARC BANDMASTER
That the
Community and Protective Services Committee recommend that Council rename
Fairwinds Park, located at 230 Mistral Way, to “Bandmaster Park.”

Comité des services communautaires et de protection recommande au Conseil de changer
le nom du parc Fairwinds, situé au 230, voie Mistral, à parc Bandmaster.
At its meeting of 21 January 2010 the following Notice of Motion was
presented to the Community and Protective Services Committee with to renaming a
park in Councillor Qadri’s Ward of Stittsville (6).
Whereas it is
of critical importance to retain the historical significance and legacy of our
communities for existing and future generations;
AND
Whereas the name “Bandmaster Park” reflects the
popularity of the Hazeldean Brass Band which travelled throughout the area, and
included members of the local Hazeldean Road families;
AND
Whereas Goulbourn historical groups, the developer and
city staff support the name “Bandmaster Park”;
AND
Whereas staff has reviewed the streets, facilities and
parks databases and concluded there are no conflicts with the name “Bandmaster
Park”;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the
large Fairwinds Park, located at 230 Mistral Way, be officially named
“Bandmaster Park.”
CONSULTATION
City Operations
City Operations,
Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is supportive of the motion.
There are available funds in the Parks,
Recreation & Cultural Services Department's 2010 budget for signage.
There are no legal/risk management impediments to implementing the recommendation in this report.
No rural implications.
City Operations Staff will take the appropriate action following Council’s decision.
