Comments
from Community Sustainability
In 2017, Canada will be celebrating its 150th anniversary. As the nation’s capital, Ottawa will be the focal point for a variety of festivals and special events that will require significant planning and coordination. To prepare for 150th anniversary festivities, the City will partner with the National Capital Commission, Ottawa Tourism, local economic and tourism stakeholders, and the Federal and Provincial governments to create an organizing committee that will be responsible for guiding initial planning for the event.
Councillor
Wilkinson’s motion was discussed at the Tripartite National Capital Planning Committee on
11 February 2010. The Tripartite
National Capital Planning Committee, which is composed
of the Mayors of Ottawa and Gatineau and the CEO of the National Capital
Commission, was created to strengthen communications and enhance collaboration
and alignment of the three partners. The
Tripartite supports the idea of working collaboratively, in a coordinated and
inclusive fashion to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017,
and looks forward to further discussion at future meetings.
