Committee Recommendation

 

That Council approve the following appointment to the Crime Prevention Ottawa Board of Directors for a Term Ending in January 2014, pending approval of the recommendation to change the Terms of Reference of Crime Prevention Ottawa increasing the number of members of the Board of Directors from 12 to 13:

 

Chantal Bernier, Janet Crupi, Jo-Anne Poirier, Lucya Spencer and Irvin Waller.

Que Conseil approuve la nomination suivante au conseil d’administration de Prévention du crime pour un mandat prenant fin en janvier 2014, dans l’attente de l’approbation de la  recommandation de modification du mandat de Prévention du crime Ottawa visant à faire passer de 12 à 13 le nombre des membres du conseil d’administration.

That the Community and Protective Services Committee refer to Council the approval of the following appointment to the Crime Prevention Ottawa Board of Directors for a Term Ending in January 2014, pending approval of the recommendation to change the Terms of Reference of Crime Prevention Ottawa increasing the number of members of the Board of Directors from 12 to 13:

RECOMMANDATION DU RAPPORT

 

Que le Comité des services communautaires et de protection soumette au Conseil l’approbation de la nomination suivante au conseil d’administration de Prévention du crime pour un mandat prenant fin en janvier 2014, dans l’attente de l’approbation de la  recommandation de modification du mandat de Prévention du crime Ottawa visant à faire passer de 12 à 13 le nombre des membres du conseil d’administration.

BACKGROUND

 

The Terms of Reference of Crime Prevention Ottawa, as approved by Council on May 9, 2007, state that general representatives of the community and academia will be appointed to the Board of Directors by City Council. 

 

CONSULTATION

 

A public call for nominations to the CPO Board was launched in August 2009 which included advertisements and an email campaign.  A total of 31 nominations were received for the positions.  At the same time, the outgoing Board member were canvassed with regards to their interest in continuing on the Board. The Nominating Committee, made up of Barbara MacKinnon, Chief Vern White and Councillor Legendre, reviewed the nominations and selected 4 candidates for interviews.  From the Nominations Committee’s deliberations the following nominations were recommended to the CPO Board of Directors and approved by the Board:

 

Chantal Bernier, Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada

 

Janet Crupi, Chair, Ottawa Youth Justice Services Network and Professor, Algonquin College.

 

Jo-Anne Poirier, CEO, Ottawa Community Housing Corporation.

 

Lucya Spencer, Executive Director, Immigrant Women’s Services Ottawa

 

Irvin Waller, Institute for the Prevention of Crime, University of Ottawa.
