REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee recommend Council approve the appointment of Mo Charania to the Downtown Rideau Business Improvement Area Board of Management for the term expiring November 30, 2010.

RECOMMANDATION DU RAPPORT

Que le Comité des services organisationnels et du développement économique recommande au Conseil municipal d’approuver la nomination de Mo Charania au Conseil de gestion de la Zone d’amélioration commerciale du centre-ville Rideau pour un mandat prenant fin le 30 novembre 2010.

DISCUSSION

Section 204 of the Municipal Act, 2001 requires that the municipality appoint BIA Board members. At its 14 December 2006 meeting, City Council appointed Councillor Georges Bédard as its representative on the Downtown Rideau Business Improvement Area (BIA) Board of Management and at its 23 May 2007 meeting, City Council approved the appointment of members to the various BIA Management Boards in the City.

In a letter dated 11 July 2008, the Downtown Rideau Business Improvement Area notified the City of a vacancy on its Board of Management resulting from a resignation and requested that Council approve the appointment of a replacement member. The BIA has recommended the appointment of Mo Charania, Vice President of Jubilee Fine Jewellers.

Mr. Charania will serve the balance of the term, expiring on November 30, 2010.

CONSULTATION

As this is an administrative matter completed on behalf of the BIA’s, consultation is not required.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

There are no financial implications related to this report.

Document 1 - Downtown Rideau BIA letter dated 11 July 2008 and biography of Mo Charania are on file with the City Clerk.

DISPOSITION

Upon approval of the report by Council, the City Clerk’s Branch will notify the Downtown Rideau BIA of the appointment.
