That the Planning and Environment Committee recommend Council approve a By-law to amend Schedule A of By-law 2002-521 to name the access road at 3355 Fallowfield Road as VIA PARK PLACE.

BACKGROUND

 

Public Works and Services Department has submitted an application to name a roadway located on the north side of Fallowfield Road, west of Woodroffe Avenue in the former City of Nepean, as "place VIA PARK Pl" (Reference Document 1).  The property is in use as an OC Transpo and VIA Rail station with a park and ride facility serviced by the subject private access road.

 

 

DISCUSSION

 

For safety and convenience, all municipal facilities must be assigned addresses including street names and civic numbers.  The selection of the name for this roadway was extended to the community through the office of Councillor Harder.  Following discussion with the community and staff, the recommended name was submitted. 

 

The recommended name, VIA Park, is not in current use elsewhere in the City as a roadway name and has met the conditions of the Municipal Addressing By-law.  The Department, therefore, recommends approval of the street name.

 

CONSULTATION

 

The Ward Councillor has consulted with the community.  As required under the enabling legislation, an ad was placed in the local French and English newspapers providing public notification fourteen (14) days prior to the meeting to consider this item.

 

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

 

Public Works and Services, Infrastructure Services Branch is responsible for costs related to the manufacture, installation and maintenance of the required street name sign (approx. $250.00) which can be accommodated within the Traffic & Parking Operations 2007 Sign Maintenance Operating Budget.

1.         Legal Services Branch to prepare the amending by-law to the City of Ottawa Private Roadways By-law and to forward the implementing by-law to Council.
