REPORT
RECOMMENDATION
That the Planning and Environment Committee
recommend Council endorse Councillor Janet Stavinga to sit as the City of
Ottawa representative on the A.M.O. Aggregates Task Force.
Councillor Peter
Hume, Chair of the Planning and Environment Committee, as well as being the
City of Ottawa’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario (“A.M.O.”) has been asked to participate as a member
of the A.M.O. Aggregates Task Force.
The mandate of this Task Force is to strategize about what positions
A.M.O. may wish to take around the current status of aggregate resources. The City of Ottawa is one of the largest
producers of aggregate resources in the province and the subject of aggregate
resources was raised as various policy issues during the Rural Summit. As Councillor Janet Stavinga, Chair of the
Transportation Committee, represents Goulbourn Ward, an area with a variety of
pits and quarries, had previously expressed an interest in this topic,
Councillor Hume has recommended that she be the City’s representative on this
Task Force.
DISCUSSION OR
ANALYSIS
It is anticipated that the duration of the Task Force will be
for 2006, with approximately three to six meetings for that time period at the
A.M.O. offices in Toronto.
CONSULTATION
No public
consultation was required.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
The A.M.O.
Aggregates Task Force is expected to meet approximately three to six times in
Toronto. Funding for this participating
on this Task Force with respect to travel, accommodations, etc., is established
to be about $6,000 and is available within the Councillors’ Administration
Budget 2006. It is also anticipated
that some of these meetings may be undertaken by teleconference, thus
mitigating the overall costs for same.
DISPOSITION
Upon Council approval, City Council endorsement of Councillor Janet Stavinga’s name will be forwarded to A.M.O.
