BY-LAW NO. 2003 - XX

 

A by-law of the City of Ottawa to amend By-law No. 2001 - 11 respecting the size and composition of the Ottawa Public Library Board.

 

The Council of the City of Ottawa enacts as follows:

 

1. Section 1 of By-law No. 2001 - 11, entitled “A by-law of the City of Ottawa respecting the size and composition of the Ottawa Public Library Board”, as amended, is amended by:

(a)            deleting the word “fifteen” where it occurs therein and substituting the word “fourteen” therefor;

(b) by striking out the word “six” where it occurs in paragraph (a) and substituting the word “four” therefor;

(c)           by repealing paragraphs (b), (c) and (d); and substituting the following paragraph therefore:

(b) ten persons who are not members of City Council.

 

2. Section 2 of the said By-law No. 2001 - 11 is repealed and the following Section is substituted therefore:

 

2. In selecting members for the next Library Board, the Ottawa Public Library Board Selection Panel shall consider the following criteria:

(a) the commitment to provide library services in both official languages;

(b)          applications for board members shall be sought and considered from:

(i)           a diversity of geographic areas of the municipality and its urban and rural make-up,

(ii)         language and cultural groups representing the demographic nature of the municipality,

(iii)        an age distribution respecting the demographic nature of the municipality,

(iv)         applicants showing a clear interest in public libraries and in public service,

(v)          applicants providing a mixture of professional and other skills related to the work of the library board or issues dealt with by the Library Board, and

(vi)         applicants from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds representing the demographic nature of the municipality; and

(c) school board nominees shall not be sought.
