In accordance with the
Appointment Policy for Citizen Members of Boards, Committees and Authorities,
approved by City Council on 28 March 2001 and 28 August 2002, the recruitment
process for Advisory Committees will commence in the spring of each year, with appointments
to be effective June 1. In order to
maintain an adequate level of knowledge and experience among the membership,
the expiry date of the appointments have been
staggered, therefore resulting in an annual recruitment process.
Advertisements for
membership on City of Ottawa advisory committees were placed in all weekly
community newspapers, The Ottawa Citizen, The Sun and
Le Droit for a three-week period. The
ads were posted on the City website, distributed to Client Service Centres, library branches, and sent to all organizations
and associations with a potential interest.
They were also sent to all community associations in the City and
distributed to all current Advisory Committee members.
The application deadline was
Friday, 7 March 2003.
The Selection Panel was
comprised of Councillor Deans, Councillor
Doucet and Pat Durr and
Christine Tremblay, two members of the Advisory Committee. Their recommendations for six citizen members
are listed for approval by Committee and Council. The role of the reserve members is outlined
in the Appointments Policy approved by Council on 28 March 2001 and 28 August
2002, where these members will be appointed should a vacancy occur, whether
through resignation or where the appointed member misses more than three
consecutive meetings. As a means to
avoid lack of quorum with Committees and recruitment throughout the year, the
number of reserve members has been increased.
The reserve list shall be maintained until the next advertisement for
vacancies, or for one year.
