SUBJECT: DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE
ROYAL
CANADIAN LEGION
OBJET: SOIXANTE-QUINZIÈME ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA
LÉGION ROYALE
CANADIENNE
REPORT
RECOMMENDATION
For
the consideration of the Committee
Pour étude par le Comité.
Attached
is documentation submitted by the Royal Canadian Legion, Bells Corners (ONT. No
593) Branch, relative to the Diamond Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion
and the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 593
Bells Corners.
The
Legion is looking for sponsors for a gala to be held on Friday, October 19,
2001: The event is entitled “A Tribute to Our Veterans”. The letter from the Legion to City
Councillors via Councillor R. Chiarelli reads as follows:
This
year marks a very unique event in the history of Branch 593 of the Royal
Canadian Legion. Not only is it the 40th
anniversary of our Branch, but it is also the 75th anniversary of
the founding of the Royal Canadian Legion.
For
our veterans it is a special time of celebration and remembrance especially as
we approach Remembrance Day. On this
occasion, in tribute to all veterans and to honour our living veterans of WW II
and Korea, a special Anniversary Medallion was commissioned. We are hopeful that we may present as many
Branch 593 Veterans as possible with a Medallion at a special Legion
Anniversary Gala, “A Tribute to Our Veterans”.
This event is planned for Friday, October 19th of this year.
The
Commemorative Medallion is a special limited edition piece minted on commercial
bronze by “The Great Canadian Mint”. On
the obverse, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legion Branch
593 Bells Corners is a red maple leaf embossed with the tomb of the unknown
soldier and the dates of 1961 – 2001.
On the reverse in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the
Legion is the Royal Canadian Legion Crest with the dates of
1926
– 2001.
It
will be another 25 years before the Royal Canadian Legion witnesses such a
significant event. By that time, the
year 2026, it is more than likely that all our Veterans from World War II and
most of the Korean War veterans will have passed on. We will never again have the opportunity to recognize our
Veterans in such a special manner. We
will never again have this unique simultaneous opportunity to celebrate two
significant anniversaries in the same year while honoring our veterans in such
a distinguished way. This will be a
lasting and notable gesture of remembrance for our veterans to know that they
shall not be forgotten.
As
a non-profit organization, we cannot put on this event without your
support. We are seeking sponsors from
the private and commercial sectors to actively become involved and participate
in this tribute to our veterans by helping to sponsor this event. Your understanding, consideration and
acknowledgment of the fact that the most of our veterans, their time is
near. It is not an easy thing to accept
but the reality is that they will not be with us for much longer. This unique event gives us a brief window of
opportunity to show our veterans that we will remember that the freedom and the
lifestyle we enjoy today came at a very high price. “Before they are gone”, I hope that you would consider being a
part of this tribute to our veterans by being a sponsor for this event.
General Sponsorship: a
donation up to $ 500.00
Bronze Level Sponsorship: a donation exceeding $ 500.00 and up to $
1,000.00,
Silver Level Sponsorship: a donation exceeding $1,000.00 and up to
$2,000.00,
Gold Level Sponsorship: a donation exceeding $ 2,000.00 and up to
$3,000.00 and
Diamond Level Sponsorship: a donation exceeding $ 3,000.00.
All
sponsors will be acknowledged at the event, in the event program, in local
newspapers and in The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 593’s newsletter, The
Bellringer.
The
75th/40th Anniversary “A Tribute to Our Veterans” Gala is
presently a tentative event and cannot proceed without the support of
businesses and organizations such as yours.
Again, this event is only at the planning stages and is contingent based
on your generosity. We would need your
earliest indication of a firm commitment, preferable not later than September
21, 2001 to determine if we are able to proceed. Again, rest assured, that all sponsors will be duly noted in the
event program, at the event and in the local media. It is also our intention to invite and have representation of the
media, press, radio and television at this event as well as some prominent
guests. Of course the attendance and
honoring of our veterans is of primary significance. We most definitely would welcome you to attend the event and if
you want to have representatives present for this tribute to our veterans,
please contact us. Either way, would
you be kind enough to confirm your intentions.
Thank you.
