2006 Community Project Funding Allocations Committee |
Date: 23 March 2006 |
The purpose of this memo is to invite a representative of the Health, Recreation and Social Services Committee to participate on the City’s 2006 Community Project Funding Allocations Committee. This Allocations Committee will be responsible for reviewing proposals and making decisions on allocations for the 2006 Community Project Funding Program.
Community Project
Funding is allocated to non-profit community based organizations for projects
that deliver programs and services that respond to emerging community
needs. A key priority of Community
Project Funding is to improve access to basics for people facing barriers to
participation or accessing services, as well as reducing poverty and increasing
self-sufficiency. This reflects the
equity and diversity statement included in the City Corporate Plan and is
inclusive of visible minorities, aboriginal people, women, people with
disabilities, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) community, people
living on low-income, new immigrants, francophones and people living in rural
communities. A report on the 2006
Community Project Funding Program Priorities was approved by HRSS on March 2,
2006 and approved by Council on March 8, 2006.
Please refer to the attached Terms of
Reference for membership and responsibilities of the Allocations
Committee. Also attached is the schedule of the Allocations Committee meetings. Members will receive copies of the proposals
at the Orientation Session and will be asked to review them before the
Allocations Committee review meetings. Attendance at all sessions is critical
in order to maintain the integrity of the allocations process.
In 2005, the
Allocations Committee reviewed 140 proposals totalling $2.3 million in
requests. The Committee approved 39
proposals for funding totalling $500,000. This review process required a total
of 5 days.
