SubjectSpay/Neuter Clinic Relocation Update/ Mise à jour concernant  le déménagement de la clinique de stérilisation animale

Date:  January 23, 2007/23 janvier 2007

In May 2006, the City was given notice that the Spay/Neuter Clinic’s current lease at 1851 Merivale Road was set to expire on October 31, 2006, with the option of continuing on a month-to-month basis until December 31, 2006.  To expedite securing a new clinic, Council, at its meeting of October 25, approved that authority be delegated to the Deputy City Manager of Community and Protective Services to relocate the City of Ottawa Spay/Neuter Clinic to a suitable facility, with funding to an upset limit of $450,000 to cover retrofit and moving costs.

Although December 31, 2006 appeared to be the latest date until which the Clinic could remain at its current location, notice has been given by the landlord of the requirement to vacate the premises by February 28, 2007.  Staff of the CPS Department has been working diligently with Real Property and Asset Management to investigate the lease of an appropriate space for the Clinic.  A space located within close proximity to the current Clinic – Merivale and Hunt Club area – has been identified and staff is currently pursuing leasing arrangements, including an offer to lease, which is expected to be finalized by the beginning of February.  Giving due consideration to design, construction, and inspection requirements, the Clinic is expected to be operational on or about April 30th.

During the approximately eight weeks that the Clinic will not be operational, clients will be referred to their regular or local veterinarian, and will be given the option of leaving their information for purposes of a return call to schedule an appointment when the Clinic is re-opened.  Further, the Clinic veterinarian and one of the three Clinic staff members will be taking vacation leave and the remaining staff will be re-assigned within the By-law and Regulatory Services Branch, accordingly, during the eight-week or so period.  The resultant reduction in revenue is estimated to be in the range of $40,000 of the approximate total annual revenue of $255,000.
