Hi Greg,

I thought I’d say hello, since on May 1st we open the campground for our 2007 season, the staff are at work preparing the site and we hold our first 2007 Authority meeting on April 23rd.

You will recall that this is our final season under the NCC lease signed in 1967, unless the lease is renewed or extended.  A few things are underway to prepare for this, and we hope to learn more when one of your RPAM staff (we don’t know who yet) comes to our meeting on April 23.

Then there’s the new agreement or MoU which we were discussing at the end of last year.  The existing agreement expires with the lease and you had first indicated that we might see it revised before last Christmas.  That was before our November 28 meeting, at which it became apparent that the campground’s status in the city’s overall governance scenario was somewhat obscure.  Maybe we can now look to the signing of a new lease and a new operating agreement as concurrent events sometime later this year.

One reason for a new agreement was to prevent the occasional assault on us like the WSIB affair of last year.  This year we have so far only suffered one minor assault when the city was not prepared to turn our water on with less than 3 weeks notice, but that problem has now been partly resolved, though we still have to wait another 10 days.

I’d be grateful for any thoughts you might be able to share with us about progress on our file from your perspective and which I could share with authority members next week.  Of particular interest would be the name of someone who might lead the effort in the city to coordinate the various actions.  I seem to recall we also talked about someone like this  helping us handle a few of those road bumps we encounter from time to time without us having to bring them to you.

Best Regards,

Martin Brennan.  Chair, Ottawa Municipal Campground Authority.
