Youth Forum Workshops 2002

 

 

Workshop One -  1:30 to 2:30

 

a.  Unlearned - There are lots of stereotypes out there.  Learn about some

of the different ones that exist and how we can help stop them. 

 

b.  The media and you(th) - Come and find out about how youth are portrayed

in the media and what you can do so that the real truth gets out. 

 

c.  Depression and suicide - Do you feel down?  Are you worried about a

friend who seems depressed?  Depression is serious.  Find out what you can

do to help yourself and others.

 

d.  Sex and you - Deciding to have sex is a big decision.  Come and get the

info so you can make the best decisions.  Hear about your rights to sexual

health services, types of contraceptives, sexually transmitted diseases, and

hear the real life experience of a young mom. 

 

e. Jobs you never knew you could get - Looking for ideas for a job?  Can't

find anything that you think you'd like to do?  Find out what jobs are out

there that you've never heard of. 

 

f.  The highs and lows of drugs and alcohol - Curious about drugs and

alcohol and how they affect how you think and feel?  Come learn about drugs

and alcohol and how they can affect you, your friends, family, and life.

 

Workshop Two  3:00- 4:00

 

g.  Power-up! - Think that you have buns of steel or what to learn how to

get them?  Come to this workshop and take the test.  Get the scoop on

exercise and eating.

 

h.  GLBTQ Pride - Are you interested in starting a discussion group at your

school or in your community for GLBTQ youth?  This workshop will get you on

your way with ideas on how to get started.

 

i.  Body beautiful - When you look in the mirror, what do you see?  What is

the perfect body?  Join the discussion on body image and self-esteem and

you'll like what you see.

 

j.  Living on my own - What do you need to think about when you want to move

out?  Hear about the things you need to know before you live on your own. 

 

k.  Stressed out? - Figure out some ways to deal with what stresses you and

how you can make life a bit less stressful.

 

L.  Relationships: the good, the bad, the ugly - All relationships take work

but what makes a relationship healthy or unhealthy?  Find out the signs of

when a relationship is going well and when it's time to get out.
