Subject: Bill 60 - update
Municipal Heritage Committee members and heritage colleagues,
I'm writing with an update on Bill 60 - An Act to Amend the Ontario Heritage Act. Many of you have been following the bill's progress in the legislature and know that it received second reading on November 2nd and was sent to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy for review. On December 2nd the Committee reported back and the bill was ordered for third reading. You can view the second reading version of Bill 60 on the Legislative Assembly website at www.ontla.on.ca.
Unfortunately, the bill did not receive third reading before the end of the legislature's fall sitting. It is still on the agenda to receive third reading -- hopefully early in the next sitting that begins in February.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support of this bill – the heritage community has really come out in force to show how important these changes are. Please continue to make your voices heard - this is very close now and we know how important it is for heritage in Ontario.
I wish you all the best with your family and friends over the holidays and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
Heather
