3. TRANSPLAN 2000

That the Transit Services Committee recommend to the Commission that the service plan for 2000/2001 based on public and employee consultations through Transplan 2000, be implemented in September 2000, as amended by the following:

That the proposed Route 136 be amended so that it is removed from the north side of Charlemagne and all of Bottriel; and that the Route include 10th Line from Charlemagne (north side) to Charlemagne (south side) and also Charlemagne from 10th Line to Gardenway Drive.

6. CLEAN AIR DAY CANADA

WHEREAS Clean Air Day Canada, June 7th, 2000, is a national initiative to provide vision, influence and human energy needed to promote environmental responsibility and sensitivity, and;

WHEREAS sustainable transportation serves an integral role in reducing smog and greenhouses gases caused by single occupant automobiles and is an effective strategy for communities seeking to reduce the impact of single occupant automobiles, and;

WHEREAS investments in local public transit and other sustainable transportation modes helps influence community land development in an environmentally sensitive and energy efficient way, and;

WHEREAS as concerned citizens and business members of the community we seek to promote the benefits of public transit and other sustainable transportation modes by associating its health with the overall health of our environment;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Services Committee supports the themes of a healthy and sustainable environment as embodied by the Clean Air Day Canada 2000 campaign, particularly in regard to public transit and sustainable transportation alternatives, and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Services Committee encourages employers to urge employees to consider alternative, sustainable modes of transportation for commuting such as walking, biking or riding public transit, telecommuting or carpooling, and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to appropriate federal, provincial and local officials.
