5. CANCELLATION OF AUGUST MEETING AND REVIEW OF SCHEDULE FOR COMMUNITY MEETINGS

That the Ottawa-Carleton Police Services Board:

1. Approve the cancellation of the meeting regularly scheduled for 24 August 1998; and

 

2. That the Board Secretary contact the municipalities scheduled to have community meetings after September 1998 to determine the possibility of re-scheduling them to the 1st or 3rd Monday of the month.

6. REQUEST FOR FUNDING: 1998 PROFESSIONAL PIPING CONTEST

That the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Services Board approve the request from the Ottawa-Carleton Police Pipe Band for funding in the amount of $500.00 to assist them in hosting the 1998 Professional Piping Contest on September 26, 1998.

9. DISTRICT ONE COMMUNITY POLICE OFFICE

That the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Services Board authorize a lease with 1252151 Ontario Ltd. for 2,421 ft2 of ground floor office space located at 395 Somerset Street West, City of Ottawa, for a Community Police Office, for five years from September 1, 1998 to August 21, 2003, at a cost of $43,578 per annum, plus GST.

That the Ottawa-Carleton Police Services Board receive this update for information and discussion.

11. APPOINTMENT OF RCMP OFFICERS AS SPECIAL CONSTABLES - CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS

1. That the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Services Board appoint as Special Constables pursuant to section 53 of the Police Services Act those regular members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who have been recommended by the Commanding Officer of the RCMP "A" Division and whose names have been submitted to the Chief of Police; and

2. That the period of appointment be from Monday, the 29th day of June 1998 to Friday, the 3rd day of July 1998 inclusive, and that the appointment be valid within the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton.

12. CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF POLICE BOARDS’ Bulletin: Changes to the Youth Justice System

That the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Services Board:

1. Support the Youth Justice Strategy recently announced by the Minister of Justice;

2. Recommend that the Canadian Association of Police Boards be involved in the consultation process; and

3. Communicate its support and comments to the OAPSB, the Big 12, the Provincial Minister of Community and Social Services, the Solicitor General and Minister of Correctional Services, the Minister of Health, the Minister Responsible for Children’s Issues, the Federal Minister of Justice, and local MP’s and MPP’s.

13. ATTENDANCE AT "LEADING CHANGE IN POLICE ORGANIZATIONS" PROGRAM

That the Ottawa-Carleton Police Services Board approve the attendance of E. Buckingham at the "Leading Change in Police Organizations" Program being held at the Banff Centre for Management, Alberta, from September 27 to October 2, 1998.
