MINUTES OF MEETING

 

The Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission met at Haydon Hall, Regional Headquarters, 111 Lisgar Street, Ottawa, on Wednesday, 10 March 1999.

The meeting was called to order at 4:45 p.m. with Commission Chair Al Loney presiding.

ALL MEMBERS WERE PRESENT EXCEPT COMMISSIONER BEAMISH.

 

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

The minutes of the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission meeting of

24 February 1999 were confirmed.

 

DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST ARISING FROM PRIOR MEETINGS OF THE COMMISSION AND THE TRANSIT SERVICES COMMITTEE

No declarations of interest were filed.

REPORT NO. 99-09

1. FARES FOR FULL-TIME STUDENTS OF VOCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION, AS AMENDED

 

That the university/college student pass privilege be extended to full-time students of provincially-registered private vocational institutions in the National Capital Region.

2. REQUEST FROM THE BANK STREET PROMENADE - CITY OF OTTAWA

MANAGEMENT OF PARKING LOT AT 318 LAURIER AVENUE WEST

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS, AS AMENDED

 

1. That the Chair of the Region of Ottawa-Carleton write to the Mayor of the City of Ottawa requesting the City to offer manage the Bank/Laurier parking lot, (e.g., install parking meters), and that the letter also include a request for the City of Ottawa to market its lots for short-term parking.

2. That the Transit Commission support more short-term parking facilities in the downtown area, and request owners of all parking facilities in this area to be supportive of this strategy by allocating more spaces for short-term parking, and by marketing these spaces more aggressively.

REPORT NO. 99-11

1. TANDEM PARKING IN THE CENTRAL AREA:

CITY OF OTTAWA CENTRAL AREA ZONING BY-LAW

 

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION

 

That the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission request the City of Ottawa continue the prohibition of tandem parking on surface lots in the Central Area under the provisions of the new "Central Area Zoning By-law".
